Tibet
Tibet has the most amazing, stark, arid landscape, juxtaposed with turquoise blue glacial lakes and snow-topped mountains. You come upon monasteries with chanting Buddhist monks of all ages, and everywhere there are prayer flags sending out messages to the gods. The Tibetans’ resolve to maintain their culture and heritage is noticeable and impressive. For those seeking strenuous activity there is an opportunity to trek to Everest Base Camp, avoiding the crowds on the better known Nepal route. Tibet is recommended for those who have coped successfully with high altitude elsewhere. Best time to go – spring and autumn.
